The Data Analyst is a brand-new role for our team as we look to be more quantitative as a firm. You will use your past experiences to help gather, analyze, and make sense of our client's portfolio company’s data to improve the firm’s competitive advantage and assist portfolio companies. The tools needed to gather and analyze data will be defined by this role with the help of the technology team. You will work with the investment team to identify data that is important and use it to answer questions on everything from portfolio companies to technology trends. You will constantly think outside the box to deliver new solutions and resources that will impact the firm in intangible ways. You will need to bring not only a deep set of technical skills and a willingness to take on all challenges big and small, but more importantly, a great attitude, excellent communication skills, and a passion for your work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Become a subject matter expert on our client's business and its data
  • Help choose the preferred tech stack that fits the firms needs and your skills
  • Use data mining to extract information from disparate data sets and identify correlations and patterns
  • Organize and transform data into comprehensible structures
  • Use data to predict trends
  • Interpret data and analyze results using statistical techniques
  • Use tools and techniques to visualize data in easy-to-understand formats, such as diagrams and graphs
  • Prepare reports and present them to the investment team
  • Communicate with stakeholders to understand data content and business requirements
  • Monitor data quality and remove/correct corrupt data
  • Acquire data from various sources and maintain databases/data systems
  • Work with our developer and create data models for our in-house deal sourcing application
  • Work with all departments to collaborate on projects that will be beneficial to the firm
  • Actively contribute to ongoing process improvement

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar position
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Proficiency in databases (Postgres, SQL, etc.)
  • Proficiency in programming languages (Python, etc.)
  • Experience with data warehouses (Snowflake, etc.)
  • Data modeling experience
  • Excellent knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Adept at queries, report writing, presenting, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to operate effectively as part of a project team and individually
  • Must be proactive, thrive working under pressure, and project a positive attitude in a rapidly changing landscape
  • Proven self-starter, highly motivated, detail oriented, and entrepreneurial
  • Get the big picture. Prioritize to execute projects and tasks in a timely manner based on dynamic priorities.
  • Excellent follow-through with the ability to see projects through to their completion
  • Proactive and interested in bringing fresh new ideas to the team
  • Ability to travel to and work out of our San Francisco and Menlo Park offices as needed

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Understanding of the Venture Capital or Private Equity space
