Benefits & Leave Specialist

Summary:

Highly regarded TOP Advertising Agency is seeking a Benefits & Leave Specialist to join its NYC Team! This role reports into the Director of HR, works directly with a Manager, and has the support of a team Coordinator. If you have 5 years’ experience as a generalist focused on benefits or as a benefits specialist, keep reading! Applicants must also have comprehensive understanding of payroll processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with developing, designing and implementing cost-effective and competitive benefit plans including group medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, STD, LTD, FSAs and 401(k) plans
  • Ensures compliance with plan documents, COBRA, HIPAA, Workers Compensation, FMLA and other federal and state regulations
  • Works with external consultants on health and welfare plans including strategy development, plan design, renewals, periodic marketing of plans and cost analysis of premium sharing and funding
  • Communicates changes, updates and/or general information about benefit programs to employees in a timely and effective manner
  • Provide claims advocacy to employees
  • Recommends and implements personnel policies and procedures, prepares and maintains agency handbook,
  • Administers tuition reimbursement, volunteer and charitable giving and other agency policies
  • Continually monitors, researches and analyzes benefit trends and evaluates for potential application within the agency and new or changing federal and state laws to determine impact on benefit plans
  • Conducts all benefit orientations for new employees ensuring timely enrollment and employee understanding of all benefit programs
  • Coordinates 401k educational seminars and consultant one-on-one meetings with employees
  • Ensures that all benefit plan documents, summary plan descriptions and communication materials are kept current and distributed to employees as required or needed
  • Manages all time-off programs including short-and long-term disability, FMLA, sabbatical paternity/maternity leave according to state and federal requirements and company policies
  • Enrolls new employees and maintains employee data in medical, dental, vision, FSA and 401k plans by inputting/changing information received from enrollment/change forms into Web-based medical programs and Dayforce HRIS
  • Audits benefit deductions in bi-monthly payroll
  • Administers annual benefit open enrollment including all related communications
  • Completes various HR projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR or related field
  • Understanding of benefits administration and payroll practices
  • Understanding of state and federal employment law
  • Ability to interact with internal and external clients at a variety of levels and across functions
  • A proven track record of gaining trust and respect by consistently demonstrating sound critical-thinking skills and maintaining composure in stressful situations
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional initiative and follow-through skills
  • Creative, strategic and analytical-thinking skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of employees in English
  • Excellent customer-service skills, internally and externally
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of Dayforce preferred
