Job Title: Unreal Engine Technical Director
Location: Burbank, CA – Onsite 2-3 days a week

Platform / Stack
You will work with technologies that include Unreal Engine, Blueprint Scripting, Maya, and C++.

Compensation Expectation: $55 – 80/hr

What You’ll Do As a Unreal Engine Technical Director:
  • Pipeline & Workflow Development: Design, implement, and maintain Unreal Engine pipelines and workflows to optimize production efficiency and scalability.
  • Tool Development: Create and maintain custom tools and utilities to streamline Unreal Engine development processes for artists and developers.
  • Asset Integration: Ensure proper integration of models, textures, animations, and other assets into Unreal Engine, preserving performance and visual fidelity.
  • Technical Support & Guidance: Provide hands-on technical support and mentorship to artists, designers, and developers working within Unreal.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with art, design, and development teams to ensure project goals align with both technical and creative requirements.
  • Prototype & Iterate: Rapidly prototype new concepts and iterate based on testing and feedback.
  • Performance Optimization: Conduct profiling, debugging, and refinement of VR and real-time applications to ensure high performance across target platforms.
  • Technology Research & Integration: Evaluate emerging tools and technologies and integrate them into production pipelines where appropriate.             

Qualifications:
You could be a great fit if you have:
  • Expert-level knowledge of Unreal Engine, including GUI, Blueprint scripting, asset bundling, and material/shader systems.
  • Strong experience developing and optimizing shaders, materials, lighting, and rendering techniques for real-time, VR/AR, and virtual production environments.
  • Solid understanding of 3D graphics fundamentals, particle systems, shading, and performance tuning.
  • Experience implementing scripts and visual scripting modules into optimized, modular code within Unreal.
  • Familiarity with Maya, Unreal, and/or Python for tool development.
  • Team-first mentality with a willingness to both lead and follow.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Strong proficiency in C++ and/or C#.
    • 2+ years of 3D engine development experience in the entertainment industry.
    • Familiarity with motion capture workflows, virtual production, or real-time character systems.
    • Knowledge of GitHub, Perforce, or other version control systems.
    • Experience with tools such as Houdini, Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Nuke, After Effects.
